Hummingbird Technologies is an artificial intelligence business that uses the latest machine learning and computer vision techniques along with algorithms. They analyze imagery captured by drone, satellite, and plane to help farmers identify early problems in their crops, such as pre and post-symptomatic disease detection, accurate weed classification and yield prediction, with the objectives of input optimization.
It also offers a range of different services across a crop such as Cereals, Potatoes, Soy Bean, Sugar Beet and Oil Seed Rape, such as crop stress detection, detection of diseases, weed grass mapping, nutrient management mapping as well as yield prediction and plant counting in row crops.
They analyze imagery from RGB, multispectral and hyperspectral sensors, down to 0.15cm/pixel resolution. They provide the data back to the farmer within 24 hours of a flight taking place and their application maps are exported as shapefiles, through desktop and mobile app, so that they can integrate with farm equipment.
Hummingbird was founded in 2015 and now are a team of 40 people servicing millions of hectares via satellite imagery and >300,000 hectares of arable customers via UAV’s across the UK, Brazil, Ukraine, Russia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Over the past 3 years, they have done a vast amount of R&D work with businesses and institutes such as Velcourt, NIAB, Beeswax Dyson Farming, Spearhead, BASF and Embrapa in Brazil, to name a few.
