Cloud based analytics is an exploding market and Matillion’s growth is in line with this meta shift. The company has been international by design, serving the mid to enterprise market where the problem they solve is felt most acutely. The quality of their founding team, product and early revenue growth attracted the attention of Tier 1 global investors Battery, Sapphire Ventures and Scale Venture Partners.
Significant commercial traction, international market focus and global investors have given Matillion an imperative to grow very quickly which required the founder to surround himself with people who had been on the commensurate journey in similar SaaS contexts. The UK SaaS market, whilst evolving very quickly, is not yet a sufficiently large executive talent pool to rely upon on their journey to IPO scale.
Therefore, to support Matthew in building his team for scale, he engaged Erevena to draw upon their team across Europe and the US to hire his Chief Financial Officer, Chief Product Officer and Product Marketing team.
Matillion was scaling rapidly and needed to hire its first ‘settler’ Product Leader. They required an executive who had seen previous success in building out a team and product to maintain this growth and meet their aspiration of being a category leader. The Chief Product Officer would lead the accelerated product development organisation, ensuring all teams delivered against the ambitious product vision.
In the hiring of Ciaran Dynes, they found a leader who had been through several growth journeys and liquidity events. He began career at Iona Technologies as an Engineer before moving into Product Management, where he enjoy considerable success. Iona was acquired by Progress Software where where he ran their integration product portfolio. He joined Talend when the business had revenues of approximately $25m and was with the business for 10 years during which time revenues surpassed $250m, IPO’ed on NASDAQ and had a $2B+ market cap. He therefore had first-hand experience of the journey Matillion are about to experience as well as great category fit have spent 10 years in and around the cloud data integration space.
