Shippeo was founded in 2014 by 6 co-founders who all agreed there was a huge opportunity to transform through technology the European transportation market. Transport globally represents roughly 2.5% of GDP (€450Bn) and is highly fragmented and intermediated market (600k+ carriers just in Europe) with no clear technology leaders.

Shippeo want to become the “Operating System” of transportation. Market penetration from a sales perspective is in France, DACH, Northern Europe and Italy with deployments across EMEA and they have already built an impressive roster of large enterprise customers. The company is international by design and is four times larger than its closest competitor in terms of number of customers.

Headquartered in Paris and backed by Battery Ventures and Partech the business now employs over 250 people.

Search Background

Following the close of their Series C round the business was looking to hire a seasoned CPO to take over from the founder who had already done an impressive job of scaling the product function to 25. Erevena was recommended to Founder CEO Pierre Khoury by Battery Ventures and chose to partner with us as we had the capacity/set up to leverage both the US and European talent pool.

They needed to hire an executive to scale the team and help solidify and deliver on a 3-year roadmap. In addition, Shippeo needed someone with the requisite experience of managing an already scaled product organization and double or treble this function over future years.

Requirements

The core requirements sort were modernity, scale, enterprise and mid-market B2B SaaS product leadership. Ideally someone who had seen a scale journey in a business wanting to break through $100m ARR and as the search progressed it also became clear that candidates with experience of supply chain software was preferred. This was a global search where we covered the market in the US, Europe, and Asia.

Result

We placed Anand Medapelli a veteran of the supply chain industry who has held senior technical and product leadership positions and had been through a scale up at JDA Software. He then joined Element AI as head of product / head of solutions before it was acquired by ServiceNow in December 2020.

He is highly knowledgeable exec with good modernity and a blend of big company and start-up experience.
