The business has been formed through the merger with Enscape in January 2022 and the subsequent joint acquisition of Cylindo in April 2022. Chaos Group creates technology that empowers artists and designers to visualize anything they can imagine. Spanning three companies, our ecosystem of 3D rendering, real-time rendering, simulation software and 3D product visualization is used by top design studios, architectural firms, advertising  agencies, visual effects companies, furniture brands and retailers around the globe.

Search Background

Having recently brought together the three businesses of Chaos, Enscape and Cylindo, Chaos Group were looking for an experienced Chief Product Officer to take ownership of product strategy and product management across the newly formed business. Erevena were tasked with searching across Europe and East Coast US to find an inspirational leader who had a strong background within Chaos Group’s core market focus areas (AEC, Manufacturing, Visual Design and M&E) to scale the business globally moving forward.

Requirements

The successful candidate needed to have a proven ability to set, drive and execute ambitious product roadmaps at a global scale. Resourceful, intellectually curious and ambitious to take accountability for results and success, this candidate should possess a hands on mindset and be a strong collaborator across multiple businesses while maintaining strong senior stakeholder management across the business.

The CPO will have a good knowledge of the visualization, rendering or AEC space and have a structured playbook for product strategy; raising the bar in terms of product discipline will be a key piece of the role. This will include forging strong relationships with the sales, operations, marketing, and engineering organisations. We expect the CPO to leverage the product vision and strategy and be the unifying force for the business and its go-to-market approach. In addition the successful candidate will bring a strong commercial focus to the role and bring rigour to Chaos’ commercial decisions in product ensuring the function will be truly world class.

Result

Erevena identified and introduced Kam Star who has forged a career as a successful entrepreneur with a proven track record of running and scaling up start-ups as well as in global enterprises. Most recently at Blue Prism he oversaw the growth of the business from $50m to $250m ARR in three years and successfully selling the company for $1.6bn to SS&C in December 2022. Kam also holds a PhD in User Experience and Artificial Intelligence, a Master’s degree in Architecture, a postgraduate in AI from MIT Sloane School, and a postgraduate in AI ethics from London School of Economics.
