Yesterday Erevena hosted the first in their Digital Briefing event series. CMOs and CIOs of leading businesses across industries such as gaming, retail and services, gathered to discuss the convergence of the roles of the CMO and CIO and the impact of Gartner’s assessment that CMOs will soon outspend CIOs in technology spending. The conclusions: that CMOs and CIOs need to work more effectively together, with CIOs stepping forward to own technology selection designed to address omni-channel and marketing ROI questions. CMOs equally should recognise that technology selection should be owned by the CIO function, with CIOs working as advisors across their organisation. If CMOs and CIOs do step forward to own this space together, where does this leave the role of Digital Director? ….. discussion for a future event!
